Are you aggressively looking for a job and receiving zero results? Are you frustrated that you are applying for jobs and not hearing back? If you are sitting here shaking your head yes then odds are you might be overlooking key guidelines to job searching. Being smart and driven with a polished resume isn’t enough in this job market.

Here are some do’s and don’t’s of job searching:

  • Do organize your search related emails
  • Don’t be afraid to ask
  • Don’t apply for jobs you don’t want
  • Do take a job that offers growth
  • Don’t mislead the interview – be honest
  • Don’t overlook the interviewer’s behavior and the environment you’re in
  • Do help others –  what comes around goes around
  • Do have a  positive outlook

This last bullet is one of the most important things to remember. It’s very easy to become discouraged in the job search process. According to Randstad Engagement Index, 58 percent of employees don’t believe they could find a job now they would accept.

If you believe you can’t find a job or advance your career then you won’t. You can be your biggest downfall. When you start believing that something won’t happen you are allowing yourself to lose the drive and positive energy to actually make it happen.

You can always learn from the job search process. Reflect on the challenges and grow from there.
