Black Friday Bonanza – Sales Associate Edition
Nov 22nd
How do you shop for the holidays? Do you take advantage of Cyber Monday sales and avoid Black Friday all together? Have you heard about Small Business Saturday? Do you shop during all these manic days? Forget shopping. Have you ever worked retail on Black Friday?
I have worked retail in the Apple Store on Black Friday. With iPods and PowerBooks flying overhead I learned how to keep my composure, smile, and sell, sell, sell.
We have a large amount of sales, stock, and cashier associates going in to man the floors of various luxury retail clients this weekend. We want to provide top ten survival methods for working retail this holiday season.
- Get at least 8-9 hours of sleep the night before your shift
- Pack sustenance and drink anything caffeinated. Here are some great recipes for your leftover turkey!
- Wear the most comfortable work appropriate shoes possible
- Make sure you dress with the option to delayer/layer up.
- Pace yourself. If you see a lot of customers who are unattended see what they’re needs are. There is a chance they’re all looking for the same thing. IE. All three women would like to try on a pair of shoes. Get all three sizes and styles and only make one run to stock instead of three!
- Plan ahead for transportation delays. Remember everyone will be traveling. Your “on-time” arrival is crucial to making this day a success.
- Buddy Moments – Have a friend at work? If you’re having a stressful moment or need an ear to vent to – you know you have a friend/buddy to help blow off steam. Better them than a customer.
- Choose an upbeat, inspirational, fun playlist for the day/weekend. It will help keep the pace up!
- Set the tone for a happy and positive environment. There will be a lot of stressed out shoppers looking for a great deal and hot item. Stay positive and aim to please. Smiles are contagious.
- If you’re the manager in charge encourage your staff to produce amazing results. Reward with lottery tickets, kitschy gifts, or candy!
We want to wish all of our candidates the best of luck this holiday season! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
